Cheap, easy haunted house props - Stringing realistic spiderwebs

Halloween spiders in webs are one of the least expensive props for your haunted house. Stringing spiderwebs for your Halloween haunted house is an art form. It can be very easy if you know what you're doing. Do it wrong and your webs will look like blobs of cotton on a string. Here's a great way to create awe inspiring spiderwebs with spiders as props for your Halloween haunted house.

Hook and loop

For navigation sake, spider web should be the last prop you add to your haunted house. When building spider webs, you will need hooks for the web and string. The hooks can be stationary objects in the room or actual cup hook type hooks that you screw into the wall. Visualize where your webs will go, remembering to leave a clear path for Halloween guests. Place hooks where the corners of your webs will begin and end.

Start with string

When stringing spider webs, do one web or web section at a time. Use regular white cotton string to form a guide for packaged spider web. Loop the string to one corner hook, extend it to the opposite corner and tie to that hook. For effect, Take some strings across in the opposite direction, tying wherever the string crosses. This will create a spider web look. Now you have a form ready for the packaged spider web.

Stretch and twist

The key to making realistic spider webs is to twist the packaged web as you go. Take the web out of the package as is and hook the whole thing onto one lower corner hook of your spider web at one edge. Now stretch, twist and pull gently on the web, bringing it slowly across to an upper corner. Attach the tight corner of the web to that hook. Continue this going from corner to corner until the web is used up and will stretch no further. The end result should be a very realistic spider web.

Add spiders

What spider web is complete without the spiders? Use spiders of all sizes. For the tiny plastic spiders, just throw them at the web. They should stick. If not, you can twist them into the web. The reason I use a string based web for my Halloween web props is to give the web a base, but also to give me something to tie the larger spiders to. Use pipe cleaners in the same color as your large spiders to tie their legs to the web.
