What Halloween haunted house would be
complete without a cauldron of gory body parts? You can make it from
ingredients found in your kitchen. This cheap and easy Halloween
project is not for human consumption. It's non-toxic but not all that
tasty. Not that anyone would want to consume a bowl of gory body
parts but you never know. Strange things happen to people on
Halloween night. Wouldn't want to make all those ghouls and goblins
sick.
Blood and a cauldron
What's a cauldron of gory body parts without a bucket of blood? The best blood substitute I've found is tomato juice. You need just enough to coat your gory body parts. It makes a nice sauce for this cheap and easy haunted house prop. It's thick enough to stick to the body parts and thin enough to look like real blood. I like to add a few drops of blue food coloring to mine for a more realistic color.
-As for the cauldron, I suggest pick it up at an end of season discount sale.
Eyeballs
Some people use grapes for eyeballs on Halloween. These are fine, but green olives are better. Why? The pimento makes the eyeballs look more realistic. You can also remove the pimento and stuff the olive with cream cheese. Pop a clove in the center of the cream cheese and you have a pretty realistic eyeball. Of course, it is green, but this is Halloween. This eyeball could have been resurrected from the tomb long ago.
Pus, maggots and intestines
Hey, this is a Halloween prop. I didn't say it wasn't gross. I just said it was cheap and easy. Cooked tapioca and rice added to your bloody sauce makes an excellent substitute for pus and maggots. You can also use tiny cooked pasta in place of the tapioca. Thick cooked spaghetti works well for intestines. Check out the rest of the pasta section at the grocery store too. Often you'll find unusual tube pasta shapes to add to your cauldron of gory body parts.
Organs
Use jello to mold your gory body parts. Experiment with different kitchen objects for molds.
The organs will have to hold their shape in the cauldron of blood. This means using less liquid when you make the jello. To be exact, use about a fourth of what you would normally use. Milk works better as a liquid because it makes your organs opaque. The black cherry flavor provides a nice color for the heart, kidneys and liver. Use lime for the lungs.
Assembly
First, pile your jello organs randomly in the Halloween haunted house cauldron. Take a little of the tomato sauce blood and mix it with your Tapioca and rice. Plop the “pus and maggots” around the pile of organs in random blobs. Next come the smaller ingredients such as the pasta intestines and miscellaneous tubes. Now, take the rest of the tomato sauce blood and pour it on the whole mess. Use just enough "blood" to coat the body parts without covering them completely. Now, remember, don't eat this Halloween prop, as tempting as it might be! It won't hurt you unless it's been sitting out a while. However, it likely won't taste very pleasant either.
